Adam Van Nortwick, PT, DPT, PRC

I grew up in Saranac Lake, New York and graduated from Saranac Lake High School. After high school I attended St. Lawrence University where I studied biology and competed in cross country and track and field. While there, I sustained a foot injury that nearly ended my running career. If it hadn’t been for a family friend who was a physical therapist and a knowledgeable orthopedic surgeon, I likely never would have been able to run again. Thankfully, their care and guidance allowed me to return to track and field and earn an All-American designation in the 1500 meter race at the 2004 Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This was life-changing for me and I discovered my true purpose in life.

In the fall of 2004 I transferred to Appalachian State University where I studied to become an athletic trainer while I continued my running career. In 2007 I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in athletic training and began working as an athletic trainer at Longwood University. While at Longwood, I had the privilege of working with Men’s Soccer, Cross Country, Track and Field, Baseball, and Women’s Basketball. After working for 3 years, I knew I wanted to learn more so I could better serve my patients. In 2010 I attended Lynchburg College where I earned my doctoral degree in physical therapy.

While in PT school my wife fell in love with the Shenandoah Valley and knew she wanted to make it our permanent home. Shortly after physical therapy school, I moved here permanently to start a family and I joined the staff of Appalachian Physical Therapy in June of 2013. At Appalachian Physical Therapy I learned a lot of valuable skills and received training in Facial Manipulation and became certified in both dry needling and Postural Restoration. Due to changes in my personal life and the draw to provide better patient care, I left Appalachian Physical Therapy in April of 2024 and established Valley Physical Therapy and Sports Performance.

I currently live in Rockingham County with my son and daughter on our small family farm. I’m excited for the opportunity to serve you, people of the Shenandoah Valley, and provide the highest level of physical therapy care available.
